Anxiety is something originally designed to keep us safe—our innate “fight or flight” response. Sometimes, though, it can make us feel even more unsafe. We worry about the future and what could go wrong. We fear failure or heartbreak or disappointing others. The “fight or flight” response kicks into overdrive, and it can feel impossible to slow it down on our own.
You might be experiencing anxiety in the form of:
Tightening of chest or shortness of breath
Headaches
Constantly second-guessing yourself and the things you do
Interrupted sleep
Need to feel in control
Relationship challenges, including avoiding conflict
You’re so used to being the peacemaker—focused on making sure everyone else is okay that you end up neglecting yourself and your own needs. You want to quit living in this constant state of tension and worry, to be able to relax and know all things are working together for good.
If anxiety or worry is keeping you from experiencing true joy or peace in your life, please know that you don’t have to continue living like this.
THERE IS HOPE AND FREEDOM FROM THE CYCLE YOU FEEL CAUGHT IN.
WORKING WITH AN ANXIETY THERAPIST
As a therapist specializing in anxiety, I want to help you regain a sense of ownership and control over your thoughts while, at the same time, learning to identify and release those things you can’t control.
Our work together is two-fold: helping you learn coping strategies that can be applied directly to your day-to-day life, while also getting down to the core issues behind your anxiety in order to experience deep, long-lasting changes.
We’ll start by creating a treatment plan together that maps out your goals for therapy. Unlike other therapists who may come in with a pre-set plan, I believe your input is crucial in helping you get the most out of our work together. From there, we’ll decide which therapy methods will be best for you. Most often, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an approach that is specifically designed to help free you from intrusive thoughts, reframe negative core beliefs about yourself, and gain a new perspective on your circumstances.
In anything that we do together, I will take the time to walk you through each step of the process so you know exactly what you are going to take on and what you can expect to get out of it.
Anxiety therapy can help you:
View yourself and your life in a new light that is grounded in Truth
Learn productive coping strategies for anxious moments
Extend grace and compassion to yourself
Gain new perspective on your circumstances
Improve your relationships—both with others and yourself
